C14  Landscape 2  - A Travel Sketchbook

Written by Linda o'Gorman who is also the Course Artist

Course overview
Landscape Part 2 considers the challenges facing the artist who wishes to paint landscapes on holiday. It can be used as a follow on from Landscape 1, or as a stand alone course. The course covers a wide range of issues from the equipment you need to take with you to how to handle painting out of doors.

The landscape artist will find that other countries require different handling and techniques due to the changes in the light and atmosphere you find there. The course uses examples of Linda's work from around the UK and France to illustrate how to adjust your technique to capture these differences. Linda hopes to develop the course further as she travels more with her sketchbook!

The course covers handling mixed media to create atmosphere and how to use your sketchbook and camera to capture images which can be worked up into paintings on your return home.

Support

All our courses are written to be complete in themselves. However we realise that students may appreciate being able to get clarification about various things as they work through their programme as well wanting reassurance that they are putting techniques into practice effectively. The Administration Centre is available seven days a week and the Course Artist provides the technical support to deal with relevant queries.

Most courses have their own dedicated Course Artist. The Course Artist keeps the course up to date and relevant to today's students. They are available to the individual student for advice and encouragement. Each course has regular exercises and assignments that are constructed in such a way as to give the student the opportunity to practice the techniques learnt on the course and to test themselves as they go along. The student is encouraged to submit the assignment work to the college for the Course Artist to critique. The student's work will be returned together with the Course Artist's personal critique. On many courses the assignment work may be suitable for inclusion in a student's Portfolio of Work that could be very useful later. The college will use the assignments submitted as the basis for any award of a Diploma or Certificate. This courses expected duration is approximately six months although the college allows students up to two years to complete their studies.

Course Artist

Linda O'Gorman
Linda originally studied art after leaving school, and has been painting for commissions for many years. This work tended to be portraiture, which is still one of her great pleasures.

Linda then studied Life drawing and found this both instructive and stimulating. She took a degree in illustration in 1991, when her family was more grown up, but found herself concentrating on gallery work and part-time teaching, mainly adults.

Linda has worked as an artist in school and as a scene painter for both school and drama productions.........Click here to read more about Linda and see her other artwork.
