Young Artists 2 Student Gallery

Below are some pieces of artwork from the Students on the Young Artists 2 Course. They are accompanied by excerpts from students letters explaining their creations from the set exercises within the course. We do prefer the young student to have the grounding of the first course, before they begin the second. This allows them to have learn't how to draw, before concentrating on imagination and colour within their work. As you can see from the examples below, each student now understands fully how to create a solid three dimensional picture and can adapt this to a variety of subjects. |

The blue monster is called a Dazyfish. As you can see its clearly its not a fish, as its flying in the sky, but this is all part of the dazeyfishs misunderstood appearance and personality. The dazeyfish gets the first part of its name because it appears to drift about aimlessly in a daze, but this is really due to its love of music. always sleeps on clouds”.Though it had invisible ears the dazyfish has an incredible sense of hearing but only for music. Thus is why no one has succeeded in talking to one except other dazyfish, who talk and think in music. The dazeyfish had a skin covered in what appears to scales but are actually reflective facets like a disco ball. It has a pendulum that causes it to fly lopsided. This is what keeps the dazyfish in the air, because it had no legs to walk with, and it must fly all the time except for that it has to sleep. Dazyfish always sleeps on clouds”. |

This was hard, not to draw, but to think of! But actually drawing it was a lot of fun because I could think about its personality and everything when it was doing it. It is most happy when it has a lot of pencils in, because then it’s free to explore. It walks along on the pencil like legs. It can get miserable if it has no pencils in, because then it has no choice but to lie there, immobile. I quite liked the idea of all my stuff getting up and having a life of its own when I’m not looking and then becoming still and lifeless again when I come back”. |

Scrambled animals were fun, the ears and legs are of a rabbit, the front legs are of a cat, the head is of a badger and tail is of a red squirrel. I have chosen these animals as they are my favourites and I think they go really well. It’s called a hopperstripe, after the rabbits hopping and the badger’s stripe. It’s extremely shy and will disappear if it sees anyone". |
